Book Jacket Summary
Nastasya has spent the last century living as a spoiled, drugged-out party girl. She feels nothing and cares for no one. But when she witnesses her best friend, a Dark Immortal, torture a human, she realizes something's got to change. She seeks refuge at a rehab for wayward immortals, where she meets the gorgeous, undeniably sexy Reyn, who seems inexplicably linked to her past.Nastasya finally begins to deal with life, and even feels safe--until the night she learns that someone wants her dead.
I was a bit hesitant to pick this one up because immortal characters are not my favorite. Whether it be vampire, fae, or other creature that lives forever. They tend to get annoying and know-it-alls. However this has a very effective use of an immortal character. The characters feel like real people who have to deal with their actions and feel like they just want to either party all the time to make it one big blur or just live peaceful lives.
Nastasya feels numb after everything she has lived through in the past four hundred years and lives to party. Her best friend Incy is the same way but after witnessing a cruel act on his part, Nas flees seeking a way to escape the sudden fear that has enveloped her. Nas is a very complex character that hides herself in a party girl appearance. She wants to forget what it is like to feel until she feels for the first time in decades. Fear was her biggest motivator to seek refuge in River's sanctuary like farm where immortals learn to live in the moment and remember what days actually feel like. This book was great and I read it in one sitting.
Nas is an engaging character who is trying to learn, care about her future, and learn more about her past. Reyn is cold and distant but it is because he feels his structured world falling apart when Nas appears. I won't go into to much detail but has quite the past to try and redeem. River is calm and understanding and I hope to learn more about her and how she choose to live a life a quiet reflection and walk the path of goodness in a world full of power. Nell is your typical mean girl who tries to act innocent while plotting ways to torture Nas. She is young by their standards and still has much to learn. I hope the next book has more of Incy because he seems like he could be a threat to Nas' new life style. I would like to see Nas stand up to her old friends and see what she will do under a real threat to her new home. She still has a lot to learn and I think she is up to the task.
