Book Jacket Summary

I gasped . . . or tried to. My mouth opened, but I couldn’t draw breath. . . . His lips, pearly wet, parted and he blew into my mouth. My lungs expanded beneath his weight. When I exhaled he sucked in my breath and his weight turned from cold marble into warm living flesh.

Since accepting a teaching position at remote Fairwick College in upstate New York, Callie McFay has experienced the same disturbingly erotic dream every night: A mist enters her bedroom, then takes the shape of a virile, seductive stranger who proceeds to ravish her in the most toe-curling, wholly satisfying ways possible. Perhaps these dreams are the result of writing her bestselling book, The Sex Lives of Demon Lovers. After all, Callie’s lifelong passion is the intersection of lurid fairy tales and Gothic literature—which is why she finds herself at Fairwick’s renowned folklore department, living in a once-stately Victorian house that, at first sight, seemed to call her name.

But Callie soon realizes that her dreams are alarmingly real. She has a demon lover—an incubus—and he will seduce her, pleasure her, and eventually suck the very life from her. Then Callie makes another startling discovery: He’s not the only mythical creature in Fairwick. As the tenured witches of the college and the resident fairies in the surrounding woods prepare to cast out the incubus, Callie must accomplish something infinitely more difficult—banishing this demon lover from her heart.

My Thoughts
I am not sure why I thought that this was a YA book but when I looked at it in NetGalley I thought that looks like an interesting YA. The title should have told me something, right? Not really.
Even though I went into this not really looking at anything other than the cover I must say that it was a wild ride. It was a very interesting world that Juliet Dark created with witches, fey, and all sorts of mythical creatures. I know I want to work in the library at Fairwick College.
Callie is looking for a post as a professor in folklore after she received her Phd. and Fairwick College seems like a good fit. She falls in love with the Honeysuckle House and promptly buys it. She might be moving fast but she finds solace in the town, plus her dreams have been amazing. An incubus is coming to her at night and although she tries to banish him he returns and returns. She must rely on the other people in the town who are magical and can really help. Callie looks into her own heritage and finds out more about her past and her past life. I do not want to give away to much about the book.
This may be a good crossover for older YA readers who are looking for something a bit steamier than the typical YA novel. This one has some graphic scenes and more adult relationship issues. I would recommend this one to those who like paranormal romances that become a series. It is not all about the romance and I now have some gothic novel titles that I learned about because of Callie's area of study. Juliet Dark also writes under the name Carol Goodman and I think I may be checking out some of her more gothic tales.
