Book Jacket Summary
A loving father carves carousel horses that represent members of his family as he saves money to bring them from Europe to America. This book is a work of historical fiction based on the stories of Jewish woodcarvers who came from the Old Country and turned their talents to carving carousel horses on Coney Island.

My Thoughts
I have always had a fascination with carousels and the magic they contain when you are a kid. Plus I was obsessed with horses and thought they were the most beautiful things in the world.  There was a double decker carousel in a mall that I went to as a kid and it was the best thing ever. I had one horse that I would constantly ride because it was a gorgeous black one. What all of this is heading towards is that this is a book for a child who loves carousels and for those who are interested in the immigrant experience. Feivel is a recent immigrant to America to make a better life for himself and his family that he had to leave behind. He goes to Coney Island one day and falls in love with the carousel there. Luckily they are in need of a wood carver and he creates beautiful horses based on his family. It is a lovely book and I highly recommend it!
