Book Jacket Summary
Rory Miller had one chance to fight back and she took it. Rory survived and the serial killer who attacked her escaped. Now that the infamous Steven Nell is on the loose, Rory must enter the witness protection program. Entering the program alongside her, is her father and sister Darcy. The trio starts a new life and a new beginning leaving their friends and family behind without a goodbye.
Starting over in a new town with only each other is unimaginable for Rory and Darcy. They were inseparable as children but now they can barely stand each other. As the sisters settle in to Juniper Landing, a picturesque vacation island, it seems like their new home may be just the fresh start they need. They fall in with a group of beautiful, carefree teens and spend their days surfing, partying on the beach, and hiking into endless sunsets. Just as they’re starting to feel safe again, one of their new friends goes missing. Is it a coincidence? Or is the nightmare beginning all over again?
I love a good serial killer bok or movie, especially when a girl survives and has to help hunt him down. This one goes off the beaten path and goes in its own direction though. However, I like this new and interesting path.
Rory Miller takes a short cut home and ends up at the mercy of Mr. Nell, a serial killer who has already killed 14 other girls. She manages to run away and she is placed in witness protection with her dad and sister, Darcy. This family has already been broken by the passing of Rory's mother and this extra strain might send them over the edge. Rory has flashes and dreams about Mr. Nell attacking them but they reach Juniper Landing in safety.
However, nothing is what it seems there and Mr. Nell is not done stalking Rory and her family. Rory is confused and does not know who to trust. Will she become a victim again or will she find a way out of the serial killer's clutches?
This was an intense ride and I enjoyed the different spin that Brian put on the town. It is a cliffhanger ending and I am glad that I have the next book ready to read from NetGalley. The sister dynamic of the book is really good and I want Darcy and Rory to work things out. There are small chapters that are from Mr. Nell's Point of view and they are rather creepy. I am loving that my vaction has such a good start with this mytery that will continue into the next book.
